Vaccines for Newborn Baby (After Delivery)

At Birth (Within 24 Hours)

1. BCG Vaccine

  • Protects against tuberculosis (TB)
  • Given on left upper arm

2. OPV (Oral Polio Vaccine – Zero Dose)

  • Given as 2 drops orally
  • Protects against polio

3. Hepatitis B Vaccine (Birth Dose)

  • First dose given within 24 hours of birth
  • Protects against Hepatitis B infection

Next Vaccines After Birth (Follow-up Schedule)

At 6 Weeks

  • DPT / Pentavalent (Diphtheria, Pertussis, Tetanus + Hep B + Hib)
  • OPV
  • IPV (Polio injection)
  • Rotavirus vaccine
  • Pneumococcal vaccine

At 10 Weeks

  • Second dose of above vaccines

At 14 Weeks

  • Third dose of above vaccines

At 6 Months

  • OPV
  • Hepatitis B (if scheduled)

At 9 Months

  • Measles / MR vaccine
