Empowering Young Girls Through Health Awareness

A Step Towards a Healthier Future

In today’s fast-changing world, health awareness among young girls is more important than ever. Many health issues begin silently during teenage years but often go unnoticed due to lack of proper knowledge and guidance.

To address this, a special health awareness initiative was conducted by Shubham Care Hospital at Akashdeep Public School, focusing on students from classes 7 to 12 and their parents.

This session aimed to educate, empower, and encourage open conversations around important health topics that every young girl should understand.

Why Health Awareness in Teenage Years Matters

Adolescence is a crucial stage where the body goes through hormonal, physical, and emotional changes. Without the right knowledge, these changes can lead to confusion, fear, or even long-term health problems.

Early awareness helps in:

  • Building confidence in young girls
  • Preventing future health complications
  • Encouraging timely medical consultation
  • Promoting a healthy lifestyle from a young age

The session was led by an experienced medical team:

  • Dr. Shailesh Jain (MBBS, DGO/DNB/ OBS & Gynae)
  • Dr. Simran Kakkar (Consultant Gynecologist)
  • Nisha Sharma (Nutrition Expert)

Together, they aimed to educate, empower, and encourage open conversations around important health topics that every young girl should understand.

Cervical Cancer Awareness – Prevention is Better Than Cure

One of the most important topics discussed was Cervical Cancer.

Key Points Covered:

  • It is one of the most common cancers in women
  • Caused mainly by the Human Papillomavirus (HPV)
  • Often shows no symptoms in early stages

Awareness Message:

  • Regular screening (Pap smear) is essential
  • Vaccination can help prevent it
  • Maintaining hygiene and safe health practices is important

The biggest takeaway: Cervical cancer is preventable if detected early.

Understanding PCOD / PCOS – A Common Yet Ignored Problem

Many teenage girls today are affected by Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS/PCOD), but awareness is still low.

Common Symptoms:

  • Irregular periods
  • Weight gain
  • Acne or hair growth issues
  • Mood changes

Causes:

  • Hormonal imbalance
  • Unhealthy diet
  • Lack of physical activity
  • Stress

Management Tips:

  • Balanced diet
  • Regular exercise
  • Stress management
  • Timely medical advice

Important note: PCOS is manageable with the right lifestyle and guidance.

Nutrition & Healthy Lifestyle – The Foundation of Good Health

Good health begins with what we eat and how we live. Proper nutrition during teenage years plays a key role in overall development.

Healthy Habits for Young Girls:

  • Eat a balanced diet (fruits, vegetables, proteins)
  • Avoid junk and processed food
  • Stay hydrated
  • Maintain a regular sleep cycle
  • Include daily physical activity

Why Nutrition Matters:

  • Supports hormonal balance
  • Boosts immunity
  • Improves energy and focus
  • Helps prevent lifestyle disorders

Simple rule: Healthy food + Active lifestyle = Healthy future

Role of Parents in Adolescent Health

Parents play a crucial role in guiding their children through this phase.

What Parents Can Do:

  • Encourage open communication
  • Educate without judgment
  • Support healthy habits
  • Ensure regular health check-ups

A supportive environment helps girls feel confident and informed.

Conclusion: Knowledge is Power

Health awareness is not just about information—it’s about empowerment.

By educating young girls about:

  • Cervical cancer prevention
  • PCOS awareness
  • Proper nutrition

we are helping them build a strong, healthy, and confident future.

Initiatives like these create a safe space where girls can learn, ask questions, and take control of their health.
